WHY TUM IS YET TO REOPEN.

It is now 6 days since Technical University of Mombasa Was closed down indefinitely following clashes that Marred the Presidential Elections.NewsClinton has learnt that a meeting that was scheduled on Tuesday failed to take place, leaving the students fraternity guessing. The meeting had been touted as the beginning of the reopening process which would normalize operations in the institution once again.

It is not clear why the administration moved with speed to close down the institution, bearing in mind that in 2019,the students held a strike for nearly a whole week but the institution remained open.President elect Kelvin Songa weighed in on the matter last week, describing the impromptu closure of the university  as the most responsible thing to do under such circumstances.

Yesterday, the incoming secretary general,Mr Samomo bouyed the students' spirits when he took to his WhatsApp status assuring students that a memo detailing reopening dates is expected before the week ends.

Whether or not the political temperatures in the school have gone down,is a matter of time. This comes even as Transformative Alliance (T8) launches a presidential petition seeking to overturn Mr Songa's victory.According to Dan Sichei, Presidential candidate for T8 Alliance, the elections were done in a shambolic manner hence the institution should conduct fresh physical Elections. He however didn't reveal how the elections were compromised in a news press with Citizen tv yesterday.

Should the administration assess the damages caused by last Wednesday's clashes and find that they are of greater magnitude, students will be compelled to pay for the damages. In 2021, Students at Masinde Muliro university were instructed to pay sh 9000 each for the heavy damages caused during demonstrations at the university.
